Cosmetic DentistryTooth Whitening
There’s nothing more appealing than a beautiful, bright smile. For many people, a professional whitening treatment is all that is needed.

The amount of natural yellow shading in a person’s teeth is a genetic trait. Unfortunately, as we age, the intensity of the yellow shade increases as the tooth structure becomes denser. Discoloration of the teeth can also occur from exposure to caffeine, cigarette smoke, and various other extrinsic stains such as red wine.

Natural yellowing and extrinsic staining can be easily eradicated with a professional whitening treatment.

Our office offers two levels of tooth whitening: home bleaching systems and in-office whitening.

Home Bleaching
Home bleaching is achieved by wearing trays in your mouth that contain a specially formulated peroxide gel. We custom fabricate the trays so that there is a reservoir to contain the gel in close approximation to each tooth. The trays are worn either for short periods of time during the day, or while sleeping at night. On average, adequate whitening, by this method, takes 2-3 weeks.

In-office Whitening
In-office whitening works by a similar manner as home bleaching, but is greatly accelerated. The entire process can be completed in about one and a half hours and is often all that is required to achieve the desired results. The custom bleaching trays are also included for any further whitening desired, and for “touch-ups”.

In-office whitening is the treatment of choice for those people who can’t tolerate wearing the trays in their mouths or who have a time issue.

How white will the teeth get? The level of whitening varies between individuals, but virtually everyone with yellowed or stained teeth with get significant improvement, often dramatic improvement.

How long will it last? Once you have achieved your optimal tooth shade, you can expect the results to last indefinitely. This does not mean forever. Periodic “touch-ups”, usually with the home bleaching trays, are recommended to ward off stains and the continuing effects of the aging process. These touch-ups can be required as little as once every six months for one or two hours each time.

Smile Makeover
Your smile is often the first thing people notice when they meet you. And they will make judgments about you based upon the quality of your smile.

If you are not smiling as much as you would like to, then you are probably one of the many people who are uncomfortable, or embarrassed, by the appearance of their teeth.

The majority of adults will experience some level of tooth wear, breakdown, and discoloration as a result of functional bite problems or just plain aging. Fortunately, with recent advances in dental technology, these unattractive teeth can be easily transformed into a beautiful smile in just two visits. Even crooked teeth can be made straight and even.

The smile makeover can also have positive effects on health. Gum health can improve when old rough restorations are replaced by excellent-fitting smooth, beautiful restorations. Functional problems in the bite can be corrected, leading to arrested breakdown and wear of the teeth and improved health of the jaw joints and muscles. Even headache and migraine can often be alleviated.
